Repeal the Hughes Amendment
The Hughes Amendment attached to the 1986 Firearm Owners Protection Act bans the private ownership of fully automatic weapons manufactured after May 19, 1986.
The result of the Hughes Amendment has frozen the total number of privately owned machine guns at approximately 150,000 and artificially caused the cost of private ownership to skyrocket.
The Second Amendment’s ‘shall not be infringed’ language should explicitly remove the federal government from the business of banning firearms or their manufacture. Moreover, anti-gun zealots at the ATF have used the Hughes amendment ban to prosecute decent Americans. They did this to David Olofson, where they charged him for illegally ‘manufacturing’ an automatic firearm -- when in reality, his semi-auto simply malfunctioned by firing in a three-round burst and jamming.
Help Gun Owners of America and the America First Project keep the 2nd Amendment on offense by telling your Congressman and Senators to repeal the Hughes Amendment by taking action below!
